Just 28 dealerships in the United States were honored by Acura with its Environmental Leadership Award, with two of them in the Carolinas with connections to Charleston.
McDaniels Acura in Columbia took a silver award, one of three levels of honors bestowed. Its sister dealership is McDaniels Acura of Charleston.
Hendrick Acura in Charlotte also posted a silver medal. A host of Charleston area outlets are affiliated with Hendrick Automotive Group.
According to an ad in Automotive News, the Environmental Leadership Award goes to Acura dealers “who implement innovative ways to improve environmental performance and reduce energy usage — 10 percent energy reduction for silver (awards), 30 percent for gold and 50 percent for platinum.”
Motoring to top
Meritorious efforts in the aftermath of a major coastal storm lead a noted fall automotive festival to win Organization of the Year from the Hilton Head Island/Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
The Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival took place in late October last year, less than 20 days after powerful Hurricane Matthew nipped the area and caused sizable damage. The fest was followed by the annual Sunday top-judged Concours d’Elegance auto show.
“One of the country’s premier automotive events that attracts visitors to the island from all over the world was honored for its continued dedication and commitment to the community,” the festival noted in a recent release.
The festival’s efforts were shown specifically last year when the event went forward just weeks after Matthew.
“Concours staff, volunteers, community partners and town officials rallied together to host” the Motoring Festival and Concours d’Elegance, according to the festival.
Meanwhile this year, the organization donated $10,000 to the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry Disaster Relief Fund to help with local recovery efforts.
The 2017 event will be Oct 27-Nov. 5. Visit www.hhimotoringfestival.com.
